The School of Kinesiology promotes wellness across the life span through programs in Athletic Training, Exercise, Fitness, Health Promotion, and Kinesiology.

The School of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism Management focuses on building collaboration, diplomacy, and entertainment through sport management and recreation graduate programs.

CHHS offers 12 graduate degrees and 2 BAM programs in six academic units: School of Nursing, Department of Global and Community Health, Department of Health Administration and Policy, Department of Nutrition and Food Studies, and the Department of Social Work. Our mission is to engage our diverse student body and faculty in trans-disciplinary academics, research, and inter-professional practice to promote the health of populations while eliminating disparities.

At the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies, we develop solutions on individual, community, and policy levels to help children and adults lead healthier lives. We take a comprehensive approach to nutrition, addressing accessibility, sustainability, and other food studies factors. The diverse expertise of our faculty mirrors the types of knowledge students need to be successful in their careers, which helps students in our programs learn how to address food challenges in holistic, sustainable ways

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) offers 22 BAM programs that allow students to apply six graduate credits to their undergraduate degrees and an additional six graduate credits to be held for reserve graduate credit (apply only to the graduate degree). Students admitted to an accelerated master’s degree program have the opportunity to complete both degrees in a reduced amount of time, and at a reduced cost.

The Higher Education Program prepares new and mid-level professionals for careers in higher education at community colleges and 4-year institutions, as well as in associations, government agencies, and industries whose activities relate to or impact higher education.

Both the Global Affairs MA program and the Middle East and Islamic Studies MA program offer a rigorous curriculum of 30 multidisciplinary credits that provides graduate students with a global perspective and prepares them to enter today's fast-paced, interconnected world.

The Department of Criminology, Law and Society is dedicated to preparing students through cutting-edge social science methods and data analysis skills for advancing knowledge in the social sciences and for making a difference in the development and evaluation of justice policies and practices.

Housed in the English Department, the programs in professional and technical writing include an MA and a graduate certificate in Professional and Technical Writing and a PhD in Writing and Rhetoric.

Linguistics is the scientific study of language. Linguists examine the components of language—sounds, words, sentences, and meaning—as a system of rules and universals. Every normal human has internalized such a system, since, by definition, we all possess knowledge of a language. The Linguistics Program at George Mason is found inside the English Department. We offer courses in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, and, most recently, computational linguistics.

Mason’s uniquely interdisciplinary and flexible master’s program allows you to deepen your cultural and linguistic expertise through courses on a range of topics such as border studies, cultural studies, film, gender studies, history, language pedagogy, literature, second language acquisition, and sociolinguistics.

The anthropology program is a dynamic academic facility that engages in transformational research relating to human cultural institutions, environmental interactions, and well-being. We believe in training future generations of critical and flexible thinking professionals who seek impact on the human condition.

The MA English program prepares students for advanced studies in literature, cultural studies, teaching pedagogy, and technical writing.

Applied Developmental Psychology is concerned with enhancing and shaping developmental processes in individuals and contexts across the life span. It uses the knowledge base and methodologies of developmental science to assist the development of individuals who vary in cultural and ethnic background, economic and social opportunity, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities, and settings (e.g., families, neighborhoods, communities, and physical settings).

The College of Humanitites and Social Sciences (CHSS) is Mason’s largest college, offering 10 doctoral degrees, 18 master’s (including a master of fine arts in creative writing and a master of arts in interdisciplinary studies), and 13 graduate certificates.

The master of arts program and PhD program in communication has three major areas of emphasis: strategic communication/public relations, health communication, and science communication. Through their coursework, students in this program examine the powerful role played by communication practices in contemporary society.

The industrial/organizational (IO) psychology concentration focuses on multiple aspects of behavior in organizational settings, including personnel selection, quantitative analysis, teams, leadership, work and family issues, and organizational health issues. The program fosters a peer-oriented environment whereby students collaborate on numerous projects in addition to working with faculty members, in many different areas of industrial/organizational psychology.

The Economics Department has a significant international reputation for a particular approach to economics. The Mason style of economics fuses scholarship in the fields of public choice, Austrian economics and Experimental economics.

Our mission is to illuminate the connections between what C. Wright Mills called personal troubles and public issues, between our everyday experience and the broader social structures and cultural / historical tendencies that serve as our horizon of meaning and action. Our graduate programs provide rigorous training in public and applied social research including skills in research design, data analysis, and substantive areas that are pertinent to many sectors in the Washington, D.C., area. Graduates have the theoretical, analytical, and professional skills that prepare them for academic positions in teaching or research.

Interdisciplinary Studies offers a home for students with broad academic interests who seek a master's degree that will help them to create a better world. Our programs are multidisciplinary in nature, allowing students freedom to tailor their degrees to their unique interests and professional goals, with many encouraging experiential learning in a professional setting of the student' own choosing.

The MFA in Creative Writing is a three-year residency program offering tracks in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. In addition to studying with highly acclaimed faculty and writing with a diverse group of talented peers, students in the program join a robust literary community that includes Watershed Lit: Center for Literary Engagement and Publishing Practice. The center provides students with opportunities to explore traditional publishing, digital publishing, literary arts management and events presentation, engagement with global issue through literature, teaching writing, and producing quality literary journals (watershedlit.gmu.edu).

CBN offers both MA and PhD degrees and an Accelerated MA degree. The faculty focus on both human and animal research with applications to "real world" problems. imal

It is a full time, daytime program. Students will enter as a cohort and complete all degree requirements within 11 months.

The Department of Bioengineering emphasizes the application of engineering tools and concepts to solve problems in biology or medicine. The Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering (CEIE) is an internationally recognized program leading the expansion of knowledge on developing sustainable and resilient cities and villages. The department offers the Civil and Infrastructure Engineering MS and PhD programs educating students in the theory and practice of civil engineering science and design as well as preparing students for advanced leadership positions in research and development in the public or private sector, academics, or government.

The Department of Computer Science offers four MS programs in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security Assurance, and Software Engineering. These prepare students for all types of careers in the fast-growing and high-paying software industry, and the department also offers a PhD in Computer Science to prepare students for research careers, academic careers, and executive leadership positions in software companies and government agencies.

The MS in Data Analytics Engineering is a multidisciplinary program designed to provide students with an understanding of the technologies and methodologies for data-driven decision-making. There are ten concentrations to choose from including an individual plan of study.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a PhD program in Information Technology with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. Students in the program will specialize in the fluid/thermal sciences, solid mechanics, nanotechnology, controls, and other related areas.
