Dr. Marva King

Retired Senior Policy Analyst, US Environmental Protection Agency

Dr. Marva King is a retired Senior Policy Advisor with the Environmental Justice Office of the EPA. Dr. Marva King got interested in environmental justice while she was working on her master’s degree at the University of Delaware and took a class on environmental policy in which she learned about environmental racism. In 1989, she joined the EPA and started working in the Environmental Justice Office. After 10 years in the Environmental Justice Office and another 10 in the air office, she returned to the EJ office in 2015. Her responsibilities included advising the director of the EJ office and his deputy.

Furthermore, Dr. King advised Mustafa Ali, EPA’s former senior adviser for environmental justice. Dr. Marva King holds a PhD from George Mason University. In her dissertation she examines the link between social capital and the use of local collaborative partnerships for addressing neighborhood environmental and public health concerns within the context of two federal community collaboration programs.
