Scholarship opportunities for Latinx, first generation, or other underrepresented populations.
The OCHRE (Opportunity and Community Helping to Reach Equity) Scholarship awards students with either a multicultural heritage or a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their community with up to full tuition. Students take part in leadership development and mentorship as part of the scholarship. It is need-aware, so recipients demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA or International Student Financial Aid Application. https://salve.edu/ochre-scholarships
Support services for Latinx, first generation, or other underrepresented populations.
The Office of Multicultural Programs and Retention offers resources for students and connects them with staff, faculty and other students who can support them as a latinx, first gen, or underrepresented student. This includes offering cultural competency education for all community members, a Multicultural Education Week each semester and the “I Believe I Can” Mentorship program that pairs first-year students with a student leader they can relate to. We also offer two Living Learning Communities for housing in Sophomore Year. Ochre Lodge, a historic home, is a community that celebrates diversity and offers events and programming for students to learn about their neighbors’ cultural heritage. In Carnlough Cottage, our students have the chance to live with visiting Fulbright scholars and speak only Spanish or French while at their on campus residence.
